We travelled to
Manitou Springs, where we were staying for the weekend. Manitou Springs is a really cute little town just west of Colorado Springs, and is located at the foot of
Pike's Peak. We stayed at
Avenue Bed and Breakfast. I cannot say enough nice things about this place.
It was fantastic. L and I had the Manitou Suite, and it was great. The owners were nice, and are located on site if you need something, but they were also very adept at giving you your privacy when you wanted it. The room rates were quite reasonable I thought, considering we were in a tourist town at the height of summer, and includes a free breakfast. The breakfast is served every morning at 9 and was truly great. Even their coffee was good. I highly recommend this place if you are staying in Manitou Springs. They are located right on the main drag and you can walk everywhere in town. Fantastic place.
We took a large part of the day to tour
Garden of the Gods. This is a beautiful park located between Manitou and Colorado Springs. Although it was crowded, it was beautiful, and worth seeing even with the crowds. It was insanely crowded, but it was a beautiful Saturday in late August, so not much of a surprise. There is a loop you can drive, and essentially, if you find a parking space you take it and explore the area.

We had dinner that evening at the
Heart of Jerusalem Café, which I must say was fantastic. I haven't had middle eastern food this good since Jerusalem Café in Kansas City, and their falafels were the best I have ever had. You should definitely go there if you are ever in Manitou.
