The Travels of Eric and Lorna

Providence has a lot of cool street art. I'm not going to write a lot on these posts, but just throw up pictures, since I'm feeling lazy and no one reads this anyway.

 So more or less on a whim, we went to Rhode Island, specifically Providence, for our anniversary trip. Although it was a little early (seems like things really kick off in June) we really enjoyed it.  First off, we were able to take the Accella train up from Baltimore in less than six hours. A delightful trip. Every time I saw horrible traffic on I-95 out the window (which was often) I felt better and better about taking the train up. Arriving Saturday afternoon we had lunch and a drink at an Irish pub next to the hotel. Sunday took the Downcity Providence Food Tour by Rhode Island Red Food Tours. This was a great tour for the most part. Only one item on the tour wasn't good (a dessert item) but everything else was great. One of the places, Suya Joint, was so awesome we went back again. Providence has a lot of cool public art.  

Bordalo 2 is a famous Portuguese artist. I unfortunately only got to see two works, but next time I go to Lisbon I will have some kind of map of his pieces (or take a tour, perhaps) so I can see more. I wanted to see the Iberian Lynx sculpture but we didn't make it to that part of town.

 I think this fellow deserves his own post. This is the sculpture of The Boxer at Rest in Palazzo Massimo alle Terme in Rome. Photographs do not do this piece justice. This piece seriously blew my mind. I would love to see what this looked like when it was new.

So I think I'm going to try this style, where all the words are just in the figure captions. Real wooden beer kegs still in use in Munchen (the German name for Munich). Here is a daylight view of the new Neues Rathaus (new City Hall). Yes, city hall is Rathaus in German. As with most things in Munich, it is mostly a reconstruction, as Munich was heavily bombed during WWII. At the nice outdoor market a block away from our hotel. I thought this was clever. It's stuff for birds to use in building nests and also housing for ladybugs. A chimera. Glyptothek. An amazing sculpture museum. More pictures below.
